We’re proposing 253 one, two and three bed apartments across the existing Weir Mill buildings and two new design-led buildings alongside 24,000 sq ft of commercial space that will create a new leisure and culture destination in the heart of Stockport.

We’ve worked hard to create a design that celebrates the rich history and character of the site and its location next to the viaduct, but that provides modern, beautiful homes. Our plans will give Weir Mill a new lease of life, delivering much needed investment and securing its long-term future.

We’re proposing 254 one, two and three bed apartments across the existing mill buildings and two new design-led buildings. Our plans will restore the glorious original features of the East Mill and West Mill, preserving their heritage.

Our proposed new buildings have been sensitively designed with a focus on complimenting the fantastic industrial heritage of the Weir Mill site.

A new gateway into the town centre, with ground floor spaces for shops, cafes or delis and plenty of greenery. Where old meets new, the mill buildings provide a striking entrance to the site alongside the sensitively designed new build, with views into the historic courtyard beyond. With the trans-pennine way cycle path running alongside we’re providing bikes stores for every apartment.

A new public space looking out across the River Mersey with dramatic views of the town’s iconic viaduct and the King Street West bridge. Providing a new access to the Mersey this is a place for riverside chilling in the evening sun or some fine dining in the restored Wheel house overlooking the water. With a pontoon onto the river we’re even looking at watersports and canoeing.

We looked long and hard at where to position our new design-led buildings to maximise views of the viaduct and the mill building. Celebrating the site’s manufacturing history we’ve used the same red on the buildings that was found on the machinery in the mill. There are accessible paths connecting the various levels of the site and connecting it to the town centre.

In response to consultation feedback and the impact of the pandemic, we’re proposing even more outdoor space with balconies on some of the apartments and a roof terrace for residents, in addition to the public open spaces.

Probably our favourite part of Weir Mill (although we have a few!), Weavers Square will become the heart for the scheme and a new destination for Stockport. The old cast iron columns of Weavers Shed are being retained to create a vibrant new home for riverside street markets, DJ sets, live music events and performing arts. Sat underneath the impressive viaduct and with views of the lush courtyard this will be a really special place to meet and hang out.

We’re breathing new life into the West Shed creating an awesome indoor space with exposed brick, vaulted arches and cast iron columns. The array of skylights will drench this former weaving shed with light creating a relaxed space to take your laptop, grab a coffee and while away the day. A new first class lounge for Stockport train station and a pedestrian gateway to the town.

The former working courtyard to the mills this is a quieter, more contemplative space for residents and the general public to chill out. A post-COVID green oasis with tons of plants and trees and plenty of nooks and corners to explore. An intimate space to get some outdoor feels with awesome views!

Over 400 people took part in our two-stage consultation by completing questionnaires and getting involved in our live Q&A. Nearly everyone said they were glad to see the site regenerated and welcomed new homes and amenities. You were also keen on seeing plenty of green spaces, trees and outdoor seating alongside walking and cycling routes into the site.

You liked the idea of opening up access to the river and the potential for water sports (although told us to make sure it was safe having people by the water). You also told us that you’d love some outdoor spaces for events, markets and pop-ups for all the family.
